Trauma Surgeon Joins Conemaugh Memorial’s Level One Program

Dr. Michael SleetDr. Michael Sleet, board certified in surgery and surgical critical care, has joined Conemaugh Physician Group – Surgery and is now caring for surgical patients and trauma patients at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center’s Level One Trauma Center.

Dr. Sleet is a graduate of Harvard University in Massachusetts and completed a Master of Science at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He then went on to earn his Medical Doctor at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia.

He completed a general surgery residency at SUNY-Stony Brook University of Medicine, a surgical critical care residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) and a burn surgery residency at William Randolph Hearst Burn Center, New York Presbyterian Hospital – Weill Cornell Medical Center.



Dr. Sleet began his career at Conemaugh as a locum tenens physician, coming to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center several times a year to fill in as needed. “The team was wonderful and I was impressed with their commitment to patient care and physician education,” says Dr. Sleet who will provide general surgery, trauma care and surgical critical care to patients at Conemaugh Memorial as well as follow up care to patients at Conemaugh’s trauma clinic. Dr. Sleet will also work with the physician residents in Conemaugh Memorial’s Surgical Residency as part of his new role.

“I chose the field of trauma and critical care for many reasons,” adds Dr. Sleet. “I have an interest in taking care of all aspects of a patient and felt this field of medicine most exemplified the art of helping people whether they are critically ill or injured.”

Prior to coming to Conemaugh, Dr. Sleet served as Trauma Medical Director for Meadville Medical Center, helping that program pursue ACS Level III Trauma status. He also worked as a trauma surgeon at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
