Vascular surgeons bring new level of care for the diagnosis and treatment of vein disorders
Sharon Regional Health System recently announced the launch of a new Vein Center at Sharon Regional. Led by vascular specialists, Gus Abuhamad, M.D. and John Ambrosino, M.D., the experienced team of specialists at the Vein Center bring more than 50 years of combined experience to offer a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of all acute and chronic venous problems.
Treatments include clot removal strategies, both catheter-directed and surgical, for patients with acute venous problems such as upper and lower extremity Deep Venous Thrombosis (DVT), blood clot in leg or arm and Pulmonary Embolus (PE) or blood clot in the lungs. These represent emerging treatment strategies for decreasing the risk of death and long-term complications of acute venous problems.
The team also offers advanced techniques for the treatment of chronic venous problems such as varicose veins and spider or thread veins, patients with lower extremity or upper extremity edema, or swelling venous ulcers or open wounds of the legs, and pelvic congestion syndrome.
Dr. Abuhamad specializes in surgical and minimally invasive techniques for the management of conditions such as aortic aneurysms, carotid artery disease, deep vein thrombosis, diabetic foot problems, dialysis access, lymphedema, varicose veins, peripheral arterial disease and pulmonary embolisms. He completed both his residency and vascular fellowship at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. He spent many years on the medical staff at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center at both Shadyside and Presbyterian hospitals in Pittsburgh, PA, and is board certified in Vascular and General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery.
Dr. Ambrosino specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic vascular conditions including aortic aneurysms, carotid artery disease, deep vein thrombosis, diabetic foot problems, dialysis access, lymphedema, varicose veins, peripheral arterial disease and pulmonary embolisms. He completed his residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts, a vascular fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, and a clinical fellowship in surgery at Harvard University Medical School. Dr. Ambrosino also served as associate clinical professor of surgery at Boston University School of Medicine and is board certified in vascular and general surgery by the American Board of Surgery.
