Distinguished Service Awards Given to Jim Pieffer and Mosaic Apartments
At a LeadingAge PA state conference last week, Presbyterian SeniorCare Network received two honors:
- Paul P. Haas Lifetime Achievement Award: The Paul P. Haas Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes an individual member who demonstrates excellence in leadership, playing a pivotal role in the overall operations leading to organizational success. This award went toJim Pieffer, President and CEO of Presbyterian SeniorCare Network, who has served seniors for 40+ years. Jim began working at Presbyterian SeniorCare Network in 1985. Under his leadership, the Network has grown to cover a broader service area in western PA through new affiliations, collaborations, senior housing developments, and programs. Presbyterian SeniorCare Network is recognized as a leader and innovator in the field of aging services because of Jim’s guidance, foresight, and dedication. He holds a master’s degree in health administration from the University of Pittsburgh. Jim has served on several national and state committees on affordable housing and assisted living. He has overseen the development and renovation of more than 40 communities serving seniors and persons with disabilities.
- Innovation of the Year: The Innovation of the Year Award recognizes an individual or program that contributes significantly to the quality of life for older adults. This award recognized Mosaic Apartments. Mosaic Apartments is the first LGBTQ+ friendly low-income senior housing community in Western Pennsylvania and only the second in the state. Groundbreaking for Mosaic Apartments was held in May 2024, and the community was officially opened in November 2025. It was fully leased by December 2025, only one month after opening, and maintains a waiting list of more than 160 people. The $28.5 million development was made possible through strong public and private collaboration. Located along Forbes Avenue in Oakland (Pittsburgh), the five-story building offers 48 one- and two-bedroom apartments, community gathering spaces, and amenities such as a pet spa, covered parking, and easy access to public transit. The building’s name, Mosaic, was chosen through a community contest that drew nearly 140 suggestions from members of the LGBTQ+ community. It is open to all income-eligible seniors. Mosaic Apartments represents Presbyterian SeniorCare Network’s 33rd supportive and affordable housing community in western PA.

The LeadingAge PA Distinguished Service Awards were given at a statewide annual conference on May 12, 2026. Only eight awards were given across Pennsylvania this year. Established in 1973, the Distinguished Service Awards recognize people within LeadingAge PA’s member communities who exhibit exceptional dedication, compassion, and leadership in serving seniors.
