The Pittsburgh Business Group on Health (PBGH) and PeopleOne Health announce a strategic agreement to provide area residents with an alternative primary care option, which gives employers the ability to now offer a subscription-based care delivery model that eliminates the traditional fee-for-service system.
While the agreement between PBGH and PeopleOne Health is aimed at cost savings and access, the initiative seeks to empower the discussion about the role employers play in providing additional care options to employees and their families – all while helping to improve outcomes balanced by cost reductions through a consistent, predictable and high-quality care environment.
“PBGH is excited to engage with partners, such as PeopleOne Health, which puts people as its first priority,” said Mike Stancil, president and CEO, PBGH. “PBGH is committed to providing a comprehensive and results-driven suite of group savings programs for all employers across the region and our agreement with PeopleOne Health helps fulfill that objective while helping families get the care they deserve.”
According to Stancil, the new agreement with PeopleOne Health significantly expands PBGH’s array of health benefits solutions for companies, which currently include a comprehensive vision care program with EyeMed, an agreement with DeltaDental for oral care, and its flagship prescription drug management initiative with RxBenefits, which alone saved Pittsburgh-area employers approximately $19 million in 2022.
PeopleOne Health works by offering employers and families a direct primary-care subscription model, which leverages preventive care, chronic disease management and care coordination – enabling direct purchasing of 80 percent to 90 percent of all healthcare services. This model has been shown to save employees 20 percent to 30 percent for those who choose to engage with PeopleOne Health’s care teams.
The direct purchasing model creates efficiencies and removes wasteful administrative expenses for employers and employees, which share in those savings. And, because PeopleOne Health enhances rather than replaces traditional insurance plans from carriers, such as UPMC, Highmark, Humana or Blue Cross to cover unexpected and unpredictable events, employees are fully covered no matter their unique situation.
Some of the benefits of the PeopleOne Health plan include, but are not limited to:
- Full transparent costs – no copays, deductibles, hidden costs or unexpected bills
- 24/7 access to doctors and same-day/next-day sick visits with in-office or virtual options
- 30-to-60-minute visits with physicians and extended care team, which include registered dietitians, health coaches, behavioral health specialists and pharmacists
- In-house labs and testing for extra convenience and less time waiting on results
- Referrals to physical therapy, behavioral health, imaging and diagnostics, and with no out-of-pocket costs
- Comprehensive Rx formulary, which includes more than 200 generic medications; provided to all plan members at no additional cost
“Our mission is to revolutionize healthcare by putting patients first,” said Jordan Taradash, CEO, PeopleOne Health. “We believe when you take better care of people, it leads to better outcomes, that comes both in the form of better health and vitality for our members, and substantial cost savings for employers. Our partnership is a testament to the innovative solutions PBGH brings to companies and organizations.”
PeopleOne Health is currently available at more than seven convenient locations across Pennsylvania and Ohio, including regionally in Cheswick, Seven Fields, and Upper St. Clair, with plans to expand to additional locations in the near future.
“This strategic agreement between PBGH and PeopleOne Health marks a significant milestone across our region in the way healthcare is provided for families,” said Stancil. “Giving people more access to the care they need will help improve health and drive overall costs down, and also improve access for black and brown communities to more squarely face the challenges of health inequities.”
