New Edition of STTI Guidebook Offers Innovative Solutions for Nurse Managers

March 10, 2017 by The Western PA Healthcare News Team

Renowned nurse leader shares new and updated models and experiences for successful staffing

According to the American Nurses Association, hospitals struggle to retain registered nurses long-term due to the stress of understaffing and the elimination of positions to reduce labor costs.

Nurse staffing is the foundation for excellent patient care and outcomes, but nurse managers and leaders have struggled to find successful staffing methods, causing turnover and a lack of patient and staff satisfaction. In the second edition of her book, The Nurse Manager’s Guide to Innovative Staffing, Jennifer Mensik, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN, shares new and updated easy-to-read strategies that will help nurse managers overcome these issues.

Mensik, who is Executive Director of Nursing, Medicine, and Pharmacy Programs for OnCourse Learning, shares her expertise by providing new, detailed examples of staffing plans, policies and delivery models, calculation formulas and worksheets, and strategies for introducing new processes and technology.

“Even in the best-run healthcare organizations, staffing and scheduling are complex issues,” Mensik said. “But those issues must be faced in order to reverse the trend of staffing-related patient deaths and injury in U.S. hospitals.”

The book is available at http://www.nursingknowledge.org/sttibooks.
