New Christian RN to BSN Program Begins at Cedarville

Updated on February 7, 2014

Cedarville University’s School of Nursing will begin educating registered nurses who desire to have a bachelor’s degree in nursing. The new R.N. to B.S.N. program will begin in August and will be completely taught online.

Many employers are seeking to have more of their nurses complete their BSN degrees.  Cedarville is providing a program in an effort to address the Institute of Medicines 2010 report “The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health” goal of 80% of RNs to hold their BSN by 2020. The program will recognize previous educational experiences and build on past knowledge without repeating content.

The RN to BSN students enrolled in this program may select full- or part-time status.   Full time students may complete the program in five consecutive semesters, with prerequisites included.  Course sequencing is flexible to support the working registered nurse.  The curriculum is designed to facilitate the integration of core biblical character qualities within the ministry of nursing.

The program is intended for nurses who have an associate degree but desire to complete their bachelor’s degree in nursing. This completion degree requires 132 total semester hours of credit.  RN to BSN degree completion students will complete 33 hours of nursing credit, 15 hours of Bible (resulting in a bible minor), and 16 hours of general education credit. Credit hours (maximum of 68) from the prior ADN degree will be counted towards the BSN degree.  Transcripts will be evaluated as necessary on an individual basis. The program will cost $410 per credit hour. Students applying to the program are required to meet a GPA minimum of 2.5, have their RN license, an associate’s degree and submit a letter of testimony.

“The School of Nursing is excited to offer this option for RNs to complete their BSN degree,” Randy Johnson, Ph.D., professor of nursing at Cedarville, said. Cedarville’s program is designed for the Christian nurse, “Because of the Bible minor, it provides a biblical focus,” he said. “No other program has this minor.”

“The School of Nursing is pleased to help its profession meet this important goal by offering this RN to BSN degree completion option for Christian nurses who desire to use nursing as a ministry for Christ,” Johnson said.
