A record number of people over 50 are getting back out there and re-entering the dating scene.

The divorce rate among baby boomers has more than doubled since the 1990s, and it’s estimated that more than 1 in every 10 dating profiles on the internet belongs to someone with grey hair.

That’s a lot of baby boomers getting ready to put their best foot forward. They’re buying new clothes, they’re hitting the gym, and getting their hair done. But they’re also doing things like going to a rhinoplasty clinic to get a nose job.

A Plastic Surgery Boom

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, North America saw an increase of 50,000 more cosmetic procedures performed on those 55 and older between 2018 and 2019.

Overall, Baby Boomers made up about 23% of the plastic surgery market, but they accounted for a significant share of the following procedures:

  • Facelift /Rhytidectomy (66%)
  • Hair transplantation (62%)
  • Forehead lift (55%)
  • Eyelid surgery/ Blepharoplasty (48%)
  • Lip augmentation: Other than injectable materials (46%)

These procedures are helping people re-enter the dating world with more confidence and helping to make an already stressful process a little bit easier.

Liposuction and Body Contouring

Baby Boomers are not just getting their faces done. Plastic surgeons are also seeing an increase in liposuction procedures from this demographic.

If you’re trying to lose weight for the first time in a few years, it can be a bit shocking to see how much more difficult it can be as you age. The body’s metabolism tends to slow down, your muscles need more time to recover after workouts, and you just simply don’t have as much disposable time as you used to.

At the same time, the areas that most people want to tone (stomach, face, and legs) are the most difficult ones to target. This is why more people are saving themselves the frustration of 10,000 crunches and getting liposuction procedures to target those difficult areas.

Ready For The Next Chapter

A lot of these people are looking to start over. They may have been unhappy in their marriage for years. They’re looking to turn the page on a dark and dreary time in their lives and start writing a new and exciting chapter. It can often feel like rebooting an entire life.

There may be a new home, new routines, and new hobbies. Refreshing your outside appearance can often help you feel like a new you, with more youthful energy and optimism than you have felt in years.

Is plastic surgery right for you? That’s a very personal decision and one you need to make for yourself. But it never hurts to get in touch with a board-certified plastic surgeon to look at their facelift before and after pictures to see what’s possible.

If you do, you definitely won’t be the only newly-singled person your age in the waiting room.
