Innovative building design and operational protocols provide patients with a safe and efficient experience for same-day surgeries

The Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) held a ribbon-cutting ceremony last month at their new Ambulatory Surgery Center, located at 5202 Peach St. in Millcreek Township.

The LECOM Ambulatory Surgery Center (LECOM ASC) represents LECOM’s ongoing commitment to expanding access to high-quality medical care for our community. This innovative facility will offer same-day surgical procedures that are more advanced than those typically performed in doctors’ offices, yet not so complex as to require a prolonged hospital stay. Equipped with advanced medical technologies, the LECOM ASC is among the first multi-specialty ambulatory surgery centers in Pennsylvania to include a catheterization lab.

“This center offers same-day procedures, advanced care, and faster recovery without the need for a hospital stay,” said Matthew Becker, M.D., Chairman of the Board for the LECOM ASC and Interventional Cardiologist. “Our patient-centered approach and thoughtful building design ensure efficient, comfortable, high-quality treatment, while strict infection controls minimize risks for our patients.  Our mission is to make a positive and measurable difference in the health of the patients and communities we serve.”

The LECOM ASC features a skilled team of credentialed providers and dedicated staff specializing in a wide array of medical services including, Matthew Becker, M.D. (Cardiology), Chris Buzas, D.O. (Ophthalmology), Carleen Cho, M.D. (Vascular Surgery), Anthony Ferretti, D.O. (Orthopedics), Vincent Fierro, D.O. (Gastroenterology), Michael Hankins, DPM (Podiatry), Kristen Heard, DPM (Podiatry), Daniel Olson, DPM (Podiatry), Stephen Schell, M.D. (Otolaryngology), Michael Scutella, M.D. (Obstetrics and Gynecology), Larry Thompson, M.D. (Obstetrics and Gynecology), Joshua Tuck, D.O. (Orthopedics), and William Wismer, D.O. (Gastroenterology).

Construction of the 23,000-square-foot facility was made possible by a $14.5 million investment. The LECOM ASC is accredited by the State of Pennsylvania and the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC), reflecting the organization’s strict adherence to national standards of excellence. Learn more at lecomasc.com
