La Roche University Launches Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling

Updated on January 22, 2024

La Roche University is now accepting applications for admission into its new Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC)program. Beginning in Fall 2024, the 60-credit program aims to combat a national shortage of mental health professionals.

The Health Resources & Services Administration estimates 122 million Americans live in areas with mental health professional shortages, with over 6,000 practitioners needed to ensure an adequate supply. With its new CMHC program, La Roche is responding to the shortage by effectively addressing complicated issues of social justice and healthy mental functioning. The program combines theory, technique and practical experiences to equip students with specialized skills for meeting a wide spectrum of mental health needs. Upon completion of the program, students will be prepared to sit for the National Counselor Exam.

Students can complete the CMHC full time in two years, or part time in four years. Those who are interested can apply online

Acting Provost and Academic Dean Rosemary McCarthy, Ph.D., RN, said, “The growing mental health challenges faced by individuals and societies worldwide highlight the urgent need for well-trained professionals who can effectively address these issues. La Roche University’s new Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling will provide the qualified practitioners who are needed to help alleviate this crisis.”

Dr. McCarthy also noted that current La Roche students majoring in psychology and sociology have inquired about the program, as many of them continue to graduate school.
