‘Fortune’ Ranks Duquesne No. 5 for Best Online Master’s in Nursing

Updated on August 28, 2022

Fortune magazine has named Duquesne University at No. 5 among 44 schools in its inaugural Best Online Master’s Nursing Programs rankings.

“As a longtime pioneer in graduate nursing education, we are elated by this distinguished recognition from Fortune magazine in this inaugural ranking,” said Duquesne Nursing Dean Dr. Mary Ellen Glasgow. “It not only validates our commitment to the success of our online students as they pursue professional advancement toward bigger goals, it also signifies the success of the students themselves as leaders in nursing practice and patient care.”

For its methodologyFortune considered selectivity (average undergraduate GPA of incoming students and program acceptance rates), success (both one-year retention and graduation rates) and demand (total size of the most recent graduating class).

“Nursing has really changed in terms of technology and the aspect of patient care; it’s changed what you need to know with drugs and treatments; and it takes someone quite intelligent to do the work,” said Glasgow in an interview with Fortune for this article addressing whether a master’s degree in nursing (MSN) is worth the time and investment.

Duquesne’s online MSN was in the top five online MSN programs with Texas Tech, Georgetown, Ohio State and the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.

In addition to its 99% retention rate, Duquesne’s 30-credit online MSN offers a variety of practice specializations and optional concentrations, such as adult-gerontology acute care, executive nurse leadership and health care management, forensic nursing and transcultural nursing.

In addition to Fortune, the School of Nursing’s online programs were also recognized by U.S. News and World Report in the following 2022 categories: No. 17 in Best Online Master’s in Nursing Programs for Veterans; No. 2 in Best Online Master’s in Nursing Education Programs; No. 5 in Best Online Family Nurse Practitioner Master’s Programs; and No. 6 in Best Online Master’s in Nursing Administration Programs.
