Duquesne Nursing, Physician Assistant Programs Get High Rankings in U.S. News 2023-2024 Best Graduate Programs

Updated on May 1, 2023

New rankings released today by U.S. News & World Report showcase Duquesne University as a national top provider of graduate programs in the nursing and physician assistant fields.

Designed for prospective students looking to further their education beyond college, the 2023-2024 U.S. News & World Report’s Best Graduate Schools rankings evaluate programs in a variety of disciplines.

For Duquesne, the highlights include:

  • The School of Nursing’s Doctor of Nursing (DNP) program ranked No. 62
  • The School of Nursing Master’s program ranked No. 41, up four spots from last year
  • The School of Nursing’s Family Nurse Practitioner program ranked No. 11
  • The John G. Rangos School of Health Sciences Physician Assistant program climbed 47 spots to No. 46.

Among the indicators and weights that U.S. News considered for the Nursing master’s programs were faculty resources, research activity, quality assessment, master’s program size and student selectivity. It considered the same relevant factors for the DNP category.

“Our connections to Pittsburgh and other U.S. health care institutions and organizations run deep,” said Duquesne Dean of Nursing Dr. Mary Ellen Glasgow. “And employers are confident that our nursing graduates will be compassionate, hardworking, sought-after team members who enter the workforce prepared for current challenges”

For the rankings of health fields that include the physician assistant category, U.S. News reviewed the results of peer-assessment surveys in which respondents rated peer programs on a 1-5 scale of academic quality. The rankings were determined by the average of ratings received by each program.

By collecting graduate school data annually, U.S. News is able to present the most current figures on enrollment, job placement, faculty and other critical quality indicators that help prospective students make informed decisions.

“When prospective students are considering their options for graduate school, the Best Graduate Schools rankings are designed to help them identify schools that excel in the program they want to study,” LaMont Jones, senior editor of education at U.S. News, said. “With many options available, U.S. News provides a wealth of data in an easy format to help each student make the best decision.”
