Dr. Sparks Joins Surgical Staff at Cole Memorial

The Cole Memorial Medical Group is pleased to announce that Dorothy Sparks, MD, FACS, has joined general surgeons Osama Essa, MD, and Frank Horn, III, MD. Dr. Sparks is accepting new patients at Cole’s surgical services office located in the Irwin Medical Arts Center at Cole Memorial Hospital, 1001 East Second Street in Coudersport.

Dr. Sparks received her medical degree from the Medical University of the Americas in Charlestown, Nevis, West Indies and completed general surgery residencies at Northeast Ohio Universities of Medicine in Youngstown and the University of Vermont in Danbury. She also conducted a fellowship with the University of Central Florida in Orlando.

She’s joining Cole Memorial from the University of Tennessee’s Methodist University Hospital in Memphis where she was an acute care surgeon and an instructor of surgery. Dr. Sparks is board-certified in Surgery, Surgical Critical Care plus, Hyperbaric and Wound Care.

Dr. Sparks holds several certificates including one for Milliman Care Guidelines Inpatient and Surgical Care Training, Instructor Certification for Critical Care Support and Advanced Trauma Operative Management. Additionally, she received awards and honors from the American College of Surgeons and other healthcare organizations, as well as, being a member of several professional groups such as the American College of Surgeons, American Medical Association and the Society for Critical Care Medicine.

Dr. Sparks has authored commercial software applications related to surgical, burn and organ programs.  Her presentations and lectures at annual conferences and health systems, in addition to her co-authorship of research publications, are numerous.
