Dr. Patrick Wagner Joins AHN as Director, Complex Surgical Oncology

Patrick Wagner, MD, FACS, a surgical oncologist with expertise in treating complex abdominal cancers, has joined Allegheny Health Network (AHN) Cancer Institute as Director of Complex General Surgical Oncology.

Dr. Wagner comes to AHN from Winchester (Va.) Medical Center, where he served as Medical Director of Surgical Oncology.  Winchester is the hub of a six-hospital health system in Virginia’s northern Shenandoah Valley and the West Virginia panhandle. 

At Winchester, Dr. Wagner also co-managed a hospital-owned practice and directed the health system’s accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer as well as its designation as an NCI-NCORP (National Cancer Institute – NCI Community Oncology Research Program) research affiliate of Virginia Commonwealth University’s Massey Cancer Center.

Dr. Wagner is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and received his M.D. degree from Harvard Medical School. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in public health at Johns Hopkins University.

He completed residencies in general surgery and anatomic pathology, and served as administrative chief resident, at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center. He completed his fellowship in surgical oncology, concentrating in translational research, under Dr. Bartlett’s leadership at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Dr. Wagner is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and American Board of Pathology.
