Preferred Primary Care Physicians, Allegheny Health Network and Equity, LLC Break Ground on Carehub® Integrated Outpatient Health Facility in Uniontown

Updated on March 13, 2022

Representatives from Preferred Primary Care Physicians (PPCP)Allegheny Health Network (AHN) and Ohio-based commercial real estate developer Equity, LLC today joined local community leaders and elected officials to break ground on a new, state-of-the-art outpatient health facility in Uniontown at 80 Matthew Drive. The 27,500 square-foot facility is a joint venture project from PPCP and Equity, LLC with AHN serving as the location’s primary anchor tenant.

“Today’s announcement is an exciting milestone in PPCP’s ongoing legacy of delivering leading, primary care services for our patients from Uniontown and the surrounding area,” said Gregory Erhard, CEO of PPCP. “Upon its completion, this beautiful, spacious facility will enhance access to primary care services, allow us to expand our practice within the community, and further advance our commitment to delivering high-value, high quality care.”

Formed in 1995, PPCP currently operates out of more than 25 locations across the Greater Pittsburgh area, maintaining a strong foothold in the city’s South Hills region as well as Canonsburg. In 2021, the practice entered into an agreement with Equity, LLC to partner with Carehub® Coworking, a medical coworking operator and consultant, to build an outpatient facility in Uniontown to further expand its presence into Fayette County. Construction is expected to be complete by early 2023.

“At Carehub, our mission is to combine innovative real estate solutions and technology to take care of the doctors who care for us. For physicians, healthcare systems and more, our design and development teams redefine healthcare delivery models to allow for the highest level of care delivery and convenience,” said Lee Jackson, CEO of Carehub. “We stay firmly committed to enabling physician practices to stay independent and reduce their overall costs by delivering intentionally designed facilities and medical coworking space that foster increased access to care, communication and ultimately, the positive health outcomes of its community members.

In addition to PPCP, AHN’s space in the new facility will include approximately 12 exam rooms to accommodate a wide range of rotating physician specialty clinics including cardiology, orthopedics, sports medicine, neurology, rheumatology, endocrinology and the most recurring, pulmonology. There will also be a comprehensive imaging suite with x-ray, mammography and ultrasound screening.

An additional AHN specialty at the new outpatient site will be women’s health including obstetric (OB) services, preventative gynecologic care and the AHN Perinatal Hope program for women with substance use disorders. OB and midwifery care will be provided in close coordination with AHN Jefferson hospital’s labor and delivery (L&D) program. In 2021, the hospital’s L&D unit welcomed more than 1,300 babies into the world, hundreds of which came from the greater Uniontown area.

“AHN’s diverse, rotating set of specialists in this new location will offer an eased, natural connection to the advanced services and capabilities of our full-service hospitals, including nearby AHN Jefferson, and will be an exciting expansion of our services in the south,” said Donald Whiting, MD, AHN’s Chief Medical Officer. “We also look forward to working alongside a trusted, longstanding practice like the Preferred Primary Care Physicians group to provide Uniontown area residents with an even more convenient access point to high-quality primary and specialty physician care, closer to home.”

Patients’ experience at the new Carehub facility will be vastly different than their typical medical office visit. As patients walk in, they will encounter an expansive open waiting gallery with spaced-out seating, abundant natural light and eighteen-foot ceilings. After being greeted by a friendly concierge, patients will be invited to check-in from their physician’s reception window, or to use the kiosks or their smart phones to check-in virtually.

“We’re extremely excited that this project will soon be underway. The new outpatient facility will have a tremendous impact on the Uniontown community and provide a hub for ambulatory medical care in the area,” said Steve Wathen, CEO of Equity, LLC.

Rycon Construction, Inc. has been selected as the general contractor and BSA Lifestructures is the architect of record.  Equity’s Project Management division will serve as the construction manager.
