Allegheny Health Network Names John P. Lawrence, MD, Chair of Department of Anesthesiology

Allegheny Health Network (AHN) has named John P. Lawrence, MD, Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology.  Dr. Lawrence joins AHN from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine where he has served as Vice Chair for Academic & Educational Affairs, Executive Vice Chair for Operations & Professor of Anesthesiology, and as staff anesthesiologist at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

In his new role at AHN, Dr. Lawrence will work alongside hospital physicians and leadership to advance the Department of Anesthesiology’s strategic vision and manage day-to-day operations.  The department provides a broad range of services to AHN’s hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers and pain medicine clinics.

Dr. Lawrence graduated from Gonzaga University and received his medical degree from St. Louis University, as well as a master’s degree in education from the University of Cincinnati and a Physician Executive MBA from the University of Tennessee. He completed both his anesthesiology residency and a cardiothoracic anesthesiology fellowship at the University of Chicago.

Certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA), and serving as a senior examiner for the ABA, Dr. Lawrence is a member of numerous local, state- and national-level anesthesiology societies, and has served in leadership positions within the Greater Cincinnati Society of Anesthesiologists, Ohio Society of Anesthesiologists, and American Society of Anesthesiologists.  He has been named to Cincy Magazine’s list of the top doctors in Cincinnati every year since 2010.
