AHN Appoints Rebecca McClaine, MD, as Chief Medical Officer of Jefferson Hospital

Allegheny Health Network (AHN) has appointed Rebecca McClaine, MD, as chief medical officer (CMO) of Jefferson Hospital. In this role, Dr. McClaine will lead the medical staff and clinical operations to ensure the highest standards of patient care and safety across the hospital and its affiliated sites in the South Hills of Pittsburgh, Lower Mon Valley and surrounding areas.

Dr. McClaine is a key member of the AHN physician leadership team, both as a clinician and in medical staff leadership roles. A highly respected general surgeon, Dr. McClaine has served as chief of the Department of Surgery at Jefferson and Canonsburg Hospitals, and is currently the medical director of the Bethel Park Ambulatory Surgery Center, and secretary/treasurer of the Jefferson Medical Staff. She has been a practicing surgeon with AHN since 2014.

“Dr. McClaine is an exceptional surgeon, physician leader and caregiver,” said Chong Park, MD, president at AHN Jefferson. “On behalf of the entire leadership team, we’re eager to support her efforts to further strengthen the tradition of health care excellence at this hospital and transform health care for the many communities we serve.”

She earned her undergraduate degree at Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, her medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine, and completed her surgical residency and research fellowship at University Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. Dr. McClaine is a current member of the American College of Surgeons, Association of Women Surgeons and the Pennsylvania Medical Society.

“It has been an absolute privilege to serve the patients of this region, and I look forward to serving them in a new capacity in the years ahead, building upon our clinical team’s legacy of delivering high-quality, affordable and convenient care,” Dr. McClaine said.

Dr. McClaine will succeed Mark Gannon, MD, who stepped into the CMO position amid the COVID-19 pandemic. He will continue to work as a breast surgeon out of the Jefferson Hills Surgical Specialists practice.

“I want to thank Dr. Gannon for his service to Jefferson at an extremely challenging time. Without hesitation, he stepped up to serve our patients amid the COVID-19 pandemic and demonstrated – time and time again – that he’s an exceptionally talented leader and physician,” concluded Dr. Park.
