The LCSW exam can feel like this huge, looming presence designed to add stress to your life. However, it’s really only here to help. By passing the LCSW, you’ll be launching yourself into a better career, better position to help others, and overall better life. The trick is getting there. So, to help you out here are 5 expert tips designed to help you ace your LCSW test prep.

Tip 1 – Register Your Exam

Feeling so nervous can make it easy to keep putting off registration in the hopes that you’ll have a lightbulb moment and be ready. Let’s be honest, you’re never quite going to feel ready for this test, and that’s okay! However, that’s why it’s important to pick a date and stick to it. Give yourself enough time for thorough LCSW test prep, but don’t put it off too long, and don’t reschedule unless you absolutely have to.

Tip 2 – Find Your Study Buddy

Whether it’s a classmate, coworker, or LCSW test prep tutor, find somebody who can help keep you accountable. Having somebody that you can work with regularly and go to for answers will keep you on track, so you don’t fall behind in your studies. It will also give you somebody to bounce ideas and concepts off of so you can check for any gaps in your knowledge you didn’t know about.

Tip 3 – Don’t Panic!

This may be easier said than done, but the trick is to find ways to help keep your anxiety in check. Part of this means getting plenty of sleep, eating healthy, and getting regular exercise. Taking care of yourself will help keep you from burning out, which in turn will help keep you from stressing out.

You should also try to find something you can do during your study breaks to give your brain a bit of a break. Meditation and adult coloring books are great ways to give yourself something else to focus on for a little bit. By temporarily removing yourself from your LCSW test prep, you’re giving your brain a chance to absorb the material you just reviewed and subconsciously process it.

Tip 4 – Create A Study Schedule

After registering for your exam, take some time to sit down and plan out your next couple of months. Schedule out every coming day/week/month between now and your test date to make sure that you cover all of the material you need for the exam. This will help you stay on track without missing anything important.

Tip 5 – Don’t Focus Too Much On The “Clinical” Side

Remember, clinical facts aren’t the only thing on the LCSW exam. While there will be questions focused on concrete details that you can get out of your textbooks, there will also be questions based off of real-life situations. Take practice tests and familiarize yourself with the types of questions that are going to be on the exam, so you can figure out the kind of answers that they will be looking for.
