Expect giant leaps in battery life.

The smartwatches of today already have great battery lives. But the technology for batteries is still in its early stages. It’s expected that in the next three years or so, lithium-ion batteries will hold more charges in the thinner form factor. A great smartwatch shouldn’t be charged every day, but it seems like the opposite is true with flagships available in the market.

The Apple Watch needs to be recharged almost every day. Top Wear OS watches like the Huawei Watch 2 can’t go on for three consecutive days without losing power. As more and more fitness and health tracking activities are loaded in smartwatches, not to mention power-hungry apps, it’s only a natural progression of things for batteries to get more powerful.

How significant the changes in battery lives are yet to be determined. The best technologies are the ones which are perfected to make everyday life easier, like when the best automatic watches don’t need to have batteries. Battery life is no exempt from that. A whopping 100% improvement, maybe not on the horizon yet, but there are positive developments that are nigh.

Fitness tracking will be more powerful.

Every smartwatch that has launched in the past decade focused on one major headlining feature: fitness tracking. In new iterations, fitness tracking turned into something more wide-spanning, including overall health markers as well as identifying underlying medical conditions in its wearers. In the next decade, this feature will be bolstered to infinity. 

There’s no question that this generation is focusing more on their overall wellness. Health isn’t only physical; it’s mental, emotional, and spiritual as well. This is especially true for non-Apple smartwatches, as the push for the next generation of chipsets will probably be focused on these manufacturers.

That’s not saying Apple does not need to be on its toes with its processors. Quite the contrary, in fact, because as much as the company has a wonderful team making its in-house SOCs, the competition will pressure it to come out with outstanding technology.
