College students are always occupied with a ton of tasks that keep them busy up to the brim. During all the excitement of meeting new people, studying new majors, exploring a new environment, socializing, and keeping up with the mental stress, students get carried away with new ways to relax themselves.
They may come across a certain group of people who might be into drugs as it’s really common nowadays. It’s quite easy to get freshman students involved in drug abuse as they aren’t much aware of the consequences and just want to get along.
Here are some ways that the students should try in order to avoid getting caught up in drug addiction.
1. Avoid Going To Parties Where Drugs Are Excessively Consumed
Typically new students at college are under a great pressure to socialize, make new friends and fit in a group. To make that happen, a lot of college going students fall prey to using recreational drug like flexeril which seem harmless or mild but can lead to adverse effects if used continuously. Drug and alcohol abuse is quite a common trend on campuses.
One way to avoid getting caught up in this habit is to simply avoid such gatherings and parties where alcohol and other recreational drugs like flexeril are likely to be served. It’s understandable that one can’t avoid people on campus and it’s even easier to avoid such meetings while you’re on campus. But when you’re at a social gathering off campus, avoiding such encounters might get impossible. So it is best to just avoid such parties and stay safe.
2. Keeping Your Academics Up To Date
Many students have been reported to abuse drugs under academic pressure. Many are under the pressure that the gateway to excel in academics is through drugs. As a college student, one can only excel if they are exceptional in their academics and extracurricular activities and many find it extremely hard to manage both at the same time.
According to a report by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, around 38% of college students from ages 18 to 22 are involved in binge drinking. One way to avoid drugs for such purposes is to keep your coursework up to date from the start. Leaving your work till the last week of finals is a huge mistake which then compels you to take up on drugs in order to deal with all the pressure.
There is an open talk on campuses for such drugs when students need to pull all nighters, study for finals and meet deadlines. Many students on campus are the sellers who get the supply from friends who have a prescription. These sellers usually raise their prices around the finals week when the pills are more in demand.
You can easily avoid getting into this mess by studying from day one and keeping a balance between your studies and extracurricular activities.
3. Don’t Get Caught Up In Unnecessary Socializing
Drugs and alcohol abuse in college is very much understable nowadays due to the open environment factor. Most students are away from their parents’ strict environment for the first time and are thrilled to explore new things and enjoy themselves to the fullest. Such students easily get caught in drug abuse while trying to make new friends.
Students need to understand that unnecessary socializing won’t lead them anywhere and will only steer them away from their main aim. The most popular groups in college are mostly involved in drug abuse and everyone wants to be a part of it. One should act sensibly around such such people as drug abuse affects your mental and physical health.
College students need to be aware that alcohol and drug consumption always seems fun and casual at first but this recklessness completely wrecks them in life. One should always keep in mind that prevention is better than cure as the way to sobriety is a difficult path to take and not everyone has the patience and determination to do it.
