As liver disease continues to impact millions of Americans, the need for greater awareness, research, and community support has never been more urgent. The Community Liver Alliance (CLA), a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting liver health, is rising to the challenge with its inspiring DeLIVERing Hope campaign, an initiative that plants both literal and symbolic seeds of change.
Running through October 12, 2025, the DeLIVERing Hope campaign blends education, community engagement, and fundraising into a vibrant call to action. From pop-up events to sunflower seed sales, this year’s campaign offers multiple opportunities to get involved and make a difference.
A Mission with Heart
The Community Liver Alliance has long been a trusted advocate for patients and families affected by liver disease. Their mission centers on awareness, prevention, education, advocacy, and research—key pillars that inform every aspect of the DeLIVERing Hope campaign.
According to the CLA, this campaign is more than a fundraiser. It’s about shining a light on liver health and empowering communities to take action.
Sunflowers and Seeds of Change
A standout feature of the 2025 campaign is the Seed the Need initiative—a creative collaboration with beloved Pittsburgh garden expert Doug Oster. Participants can purchase sunflower plants or seeds, each representing a commitment to liver health and community empowerment.
“Sunflowers are a symbol of warmth, positivity, and growth. It’s the perfect flower to represent this hopeful movement,” said Oster, who brings his passion for gardening and public education to the campaign.
Proceeds from sunflower purchases go directly toward funding the Community Liver Alliance’s vital programs. For those who can’t attend in person, seed kits with plant stakes can be shipped nationwide, making it easy for supporters to join in no matter where they live.
Community Events and the 5K Walk/Run
Throughout the campaign period, pop-up events will give people a chance to connect with local advocates, pick up their sunflower purchases, and learn more about liver health. The campaign culminates in a DeLIVERing Hope 5K Walk/Run, bringing together supporters, survivors, and families to take strides, both figuratively and literally, toward a healthier future.
These events are more than moments of gathering; they’re platforms for shared stories, awareness-building, and tangible community impact.
Why It Matters
According to the CDC, liver disease is one of the leading causes of death in the United States, and its prevalence is rising. Early detection, lifestyle changes, and access to care can drastically improve outcomes, yet too many people remain unaware of their risks.
That’s where the Community Liver Alliance steps in, connecting people to resources, supporting research, and advocating for policies that improve patient outcomes.
