How to Organize a Nurses’ Night Out

Updated on August 28, 2023

Nurses Standing Outside A HospitalYour job as a nurse is extremely challenging, tiring and rewarding all at once. You work long, hard, odd hours to provide endless hands-on care for patients and assistance to physicians and families. So, when the shift is over and it’s time to relax, organize a night out with a group of co-workers— it’s a great way to unwind and spend much-needed time with friends.

Here are six simple, fun ideas to make your next Nurses’ Night Out one to remember.

Get Some Ahh at the Spa

After spending so much time on your feet, organize a group spa outing. Many spas will offer group discounts for five or more, so round up the gals and schedule mani-pedis, or a massage to ease the stress of the week. Also keep an eye on sites such as LivingSocial for deals on spa treatments in your local area.

Laugh the Night Away

They say laughter is the best medicine, so check your local comedy club’s schedule for upcoming shows. Amateur nights can be hit or miss, but you might just get lucky finding a popular comedian’s tour stopping at a venue near you. Comedy clubs have a way of bringing the audience out of its shell, so it’s a great way to bond with coworkers and share in a night of laughter.

Shop Your Heart Out

You spend all week in comfy shoes and scrubs. Grab the girls and hit the store for a new bombshell outfit for your happy hour excursion (read on for that). Hit the department store aisles for the latest threads from designers such as Michael Kors at Macy’s. Hey, you’ve earned it!

Enjoy a Free Makeover

Nothing feels better than a little pampering, especially if it’s free! Stores like Origins and Sephora often offer complimentary mini-makeovers as well as consultations. Most department stores offer a full free makeover with the purchase of at least one item, so snag that lip gloss you’ve had your eye on or that mascara you ran out of and get a fresh look in the process! Call ahead to secure your spots and find out what rules apply, then head out to get a new look glam with your nursing friends.

Cheers to Happy Hours

Many happy hours not only include great deals on drinks, they often feature specials on tasty appetizers and entrees. Download a smartphone app like Happy Hours, or check websites find out which places offer the most affordable fun in your area.

Host a Game Night

A more low-key options is to host a night in, with friends gathering for game night. Ask each guest to bring a small appetizer, and the host will provide the games, beverages and ambiance. Create several stations with board games or cards for small groups, or choose a game like Pictionary or Cranium that many can play in teams. Make it extra memorable by keeping score and offering a prize for the winners. A $10 iTunes gift card makes for a nice prize anyone will enjoy.
