Top Health Tips for Busy Professionals

Updated on July 23, 2020

Long hours and stressful situations can take their toll on busy working professionals. If you’re struggling to combat the negative effects of working in a job that leaves you little time for self-care and relaxation, the following are some top health tips for those on the go.

Always Eat Breakfast

Breakfast is always known as the most important meal of the day and for very good reason. It’s the first meal you eat after fasting during the night. Breakfast replenishes your glucose levels and boosts your alertness and energy levels, while also giving your body other essential nutrients that it needs. Healthy options include oats with fresh fruit, seeds and honey.

Avail of Online Services Where Possible

Make the most of your time off and don’t spend it running around in circles trying to get to the bottom of a never-ending to-do list. Where possible, it’s always a good idea to avail of online services. Doing your grocery shopping online and getting it delivered is a great way to save hours of your precious time. If you use medical marijuana, why not sign up to a subscription service and get a cannabis box delivered to your door every month? It will save you time going to your local medical dispensary. Do you want to get your hair done? Use social media to book any appointments that you need to make. These are all small changes that will make a big difference and leave you with more time to relax.

Stay Hydrated

The main symptoms of dehydration include headaches, fatigue and dizziness. If you regularly experience one of or all three symptoms, your body is telling you that it needs more water. Experts recommend that each person should drink an average of 3 liters per day, with the amount increasing to 3+ liters if exercise is involved. Once your body is getting enough water, you’ll experience increased focus and you’ll have more energy to get through the day with a smile.

Eat the Right Foods

Eating healthy can be a struggle when you’re busy. Skipping meals and eating fast food can quickly become the norm when your time to prepare and cook food is limited. Instead of giving in to convenience and depriving your body of the nutrients it needs, make time to eat the right foods. Meal prep during your free time for those days when you know you won’t have time to cook. Opt for a salad over a burger when eating out. Take fruit to work with you and avoid vending machines. These are all great ways to limit temptation and ensure your body is getting the fuel it needs to stay healthy.

Limit Caffeine

We all love our coffee and cutting down is a subject most of us do not like to chat about. Caffeine is what keeps us going when we’re feeling tired and we’ve all become accustomed to waking up to the smell of coffee first thing in the morning. But did you know that too much caffeine could cause nervousness, stomach upset and insomnia? So how much coffee is enough? Anything over 4 cups per day is not recommended, even for busy professionals who may be on their feet all day. If you’re trying to cut back but finding it difficult, you can get an energy boost from drinking green smoothies, macha green tea and eating magnesium-rich foods.
