Santonio Holmes III & Long Foundation Hosts Third Strikes Against Sickle Cell 2019 Celebrity Bowling Extravaganza

Updated on December 4, 2019

Strikes Against Sickle Cell 2019 is lining up all its bowling pins in charitable efforts for its third year filled with fundraising, fun and festivities on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 from 6:30 PM- 9:30 PM at AMF Noble Manor Lanes. Doors open at 5:30 PM, so be sure to slip on some bowling shoes and strike some pins in order to create memories for a great cause. Who knows, maybe a few lucky guests will be able to participate in a bowl-off with Santonio Holmes himself?

Santonio Holmes, number 10 for the Pittsburgh Steelers and MVP of Super Bowl 43, recognized the critical support to advocate for Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) when his son, Santonio “TJ” Holmes III, began to suffer from symptoms of the disease at an early age. A blood test revealed that TJ had inherited the blood disorder.

Experiencing first-hand the medical, financial and emotional difficulties that families fighting SCD face, the NFL star built the III & Long Foundation in honor of his son in order to educate families to help them navigate the challenges of SCD. Founded in the Fall of 2011, The III & Long Foundation raises awareness to help fight SCD with financial support and treatment options for families affected by the disease.

Hopeful returns of black and gold favorites from last year’s Strikes Against Sickle Cell include Brett Keisel, Roosevelt Nix, Charlie Batch as well as Pittsburgh celebrities like Fashion Designer Kiya Tomlin and David Alan, WWE suit specialist and fashion icon Pittsburgh media friends include Rachael Rennebeck and John Chamberlin from Yajagoff Media LLC, Bubba and Kelly from STAR 100.7, and Colin Dunlap and Andrew Fillipponi from 93.7 The Fan. As an added bonus, The Mayor of Pittsburgh himself, Bill Peduto, joined the charity event to congratulate Sickle Cell Awareness Day on Oct. 8 and to commend the III & Long Foundation’s efforts.

With the help of sponsorships, the Holmes family, friends and community joined forces in order to raise over $20,000 for children of families fighting the battle of SCD from last year alone.

Currently, lanes have been sold with lane sponsorships including Pittsburgh Steelers, UPS, Giant Eagle, Entercom, Duquesne Light Company and more! As an added bonus, Mary Mac Bakehouse has signed on as the official bag sponsor for evening festivities.
