Master of Ministry Program Launches in Fall

Updated on November 13, 2013

Cedarville University announced the school of biblical and theological studies’ first graduate degree program – the Master of Ministry.

Set to begin in fall 2014, the program will equip students with a solid core of biblical knowledge and practical ministry application. According to Jason Lee, Ph.D., dean of the school of biblical and theological studies, “This program will provide students broad-based ministry training with a theological foundation.”

With available scholarships and a competitive tuition rate of $439 per credit hour, students can earn this degree in one year. According to Master of Ministry program director, Rob Turner, Ph.D., one of the main objectives in planning for the program was to keep the cost low for students. “One of the heartbeats of the program is to give students the ability to begin ministry sooner without accruing as much debt,” Turner said.

Each course will focus on linking important biblical and theological knowledge to practical ministry application. Students will also gain ministry experience through a required summer internship. According to Turner, students will be placed at quality internships where they can be actively involved in ministry at the local church level.

Not tailored merely for students interested in pastoral ministry, this program has been designed to provide valuable preparation for ministry-minded students entering any profession. “A ministry focus is a critical component of all vocations,” said Lee.

In addition to rigorous academics and practical application, this on-campus program also prioritizes relationships on multiple levels. Faculty and students will interact in and out of the classroom through the cultivation of vibrant discussions and Christ-centered community. Turner will also meet weekly with each graduate student to develop one-on-one mentoring relationships. After completing the program, graduates will be invited back to Cedarville for a yearly conference to further develop long-term relationships and continued growth. “Relationships are primary in Christian education and ministry,” said Turner. “Any education without a relationship is going to be a disembodied education.”

At the heart of this Master of Ministry program is the desire for students to be genuinely rooted in Christ, His church and His commission.
