How to Get Sparkling Clean Vinyl Windows

Updated on October 8, 2020

Make your home beautiful and full of light with clean vinyl windows. Cleaning windows is not an exciting task to do, so you need to ensure you get it right the first time. There are many theories to doing it best, from newspapers to using window cleaning solutions. All of them work well, as long as you do them right.

To avoid having to redo the cleaning, or failing to achieve your desired goal of sparkling clean vinyl windows, WindowTech Windows and Doors came up with simple steps to follow to get the shine. You will need a bucket of water, window cleaning detergent, sponge and squeegee, microfiber cloth, and newspapers.

Remove curtains

To make the room fresher by the end of the cleaning, wash your curtains and let them dry as you work on the vinyl windows. Use a brush or a vacuum to sweep away any dust available so that the windows don’t get muddy when you wipe them with a wet cloth. Ensure you remove any cobwebs around the corners of the window and seals.

Choose a detergent

Vinegar gives the best results. Spray some amount on the window and let it stay for some time, to make the dirt easy to clean. You can also use soap. In a bucket of warm, clean water, add a small amount of liquid soap because a lot of it will leave marks on the window after it dries. Use a soft sponge to scrub the window.

Wipe off excess cleaner

To be able to get to every part of the window, use the s-shape motion to wipe. For a streak-free finish, use the squeegee, wiping in s-shape. Use a microfiber cloth to remove excess water and dry the window. Using paper towels might leave lint on the glass, so avoid them.

Don’t forget the window edges

Most people forget about the window edges and leave them soapy. To keep them looking new, it is advisable to use a cream-based cleanser. Toothpaste can do the job well too. Just like it whitens teeth, the toothpaste will leave the window frames whitened and sparkling clean.

Choose the right time for cleaning

Washing vinyl windows on a sunny day is not advisable because the soap starts to dry as soon as you apply it. This will leave marks on the window panes, which will get hard to clean. You can instead choose to clean on cloudy days when there is less sun, and you will have ample time to clean without worrying about drying soap.

Try using home-made detergents

Although they are usable, home-made detergents do not kill bacteria. To add some love to your vinyl window use ammonia. However, ammonia is corrosive, so you need to wear gloves to protect your hands. You can also add two tablespoons of vinegar to a bucket of warm water to get better results. Use newspapers to dry your vinyl window.
