Nationally acclaimed Hispanic leaders will hold its annual education summit on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at Cedarville University. The Summit will be in the Dixon Ministry Center from 8:15 a.m. until 4 p.m. Speakers will discuss challenges and strategies for encouraging academic success in the Hispanic community.
Featured speakers for the event include Harold Smith, president and CEO of Christianity Today, and Carlos Campo, Ph.D., president of the Hispanic Education Alliance and former president of Regent University. The event is free because of sponsorship by Cedarville and the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference (NHCLC), but online registration is required.
Summit breakout sessions will offer special tracks for pastors, educators and higher education professionals. Gus Reyes, Ph.D., Director of the Hispanic Education Initiative/Affinity Ministries for the Baptist General Convention of Texas, will present Barna Group’s research on Hispanics, and Briana Stensrud and Mike Haley will present for Focus on the Family. Jesse Miranda, Ph.D., founder and president of the Alianza de Ministeros Evangelicos Nacionales (AMEN), Esmeralda Sanchez, research associate for the Center for Child and Community Development at Southern Methodist University, and Reyes will also discuss the recruitment and retention of Hispanic students in higher education.
Roscoe Smith, associate vice president of university admissions at Cedarville, was a panelist at the Summit last year near Indianapolis. From his experience last year, he believes this year’s forum can help bring significant change to our culture. “This summit provides a great opportunity for Christians from all denominations and ethnic backgrounds to come together on important educational issues,” said Smith. “Cedarville University is committed to helping shape the message because of the importance of educating believers from all backgrounds and geographic regions.”
