Health and Wellness Tips That Will Totally Transform Your Morning Routine

Updated on November 29, 2019

With summer just around the corner, you are probably dreaming about your vacation. You can already taste those delicious cocktails, feel the salty water on your skin and touch the sand beneath your feet.  With those thoughts occupying your mind, it is easy to put your health and fitness on vacation as well. However, if you want to be fit and healthy this season making excuses and neglecting yourself is not an option. Don’t worry, with just simple changes in your morning routine you will be able to enjoy the summer whilst being the best version of yourself. Therefore, read the following tips and see how you can improve your lifestyle.

1. Get enough sleep

The best thing about summer is those countless festivals and outdoor parties that last until sunrise. Although there is nothing wrong with being a party animal, don’t overdo it. Not getting enough sleep night after night will eventually take a toll on your mental and physical health, so make sure you lead a balanced life.  Getting those eight hours of sleep can be tricky during hot summer nights, so keep your bedroom cool and window shades closed.

2. Get a head start

Exercising during the summer might feel like roasting in the oven, so make sure you complete your workout routine before the sun is at its peak. Instead of spending the whole morning in your bed, take a brisk walk and you will quickly activate your body’s systems. Hitting the pavement before your first cup of coffee will not only have a positive impact on your physique but will also give you a mental boost, sense of accomplishment and allow you to focus on your daily tasks more easily. Keep in mind that the right type of shoes can be a game changer. After all, it is easy to make excuses and skip this part of your morning routine when your feet are sore, right? Therefore, check out walking shoe reviews on websites such as Walk Jog Run and see which pair might be perfect for you.

3.Wear sunscreen

Although getting that gorgeous summer tan quickly might seem tempting, keep in mind that there is nothing sexy about burned, red skin. Therefore, put on your sunscreen every single time you go for a walk and wear clothes that have ultraviolet protection factor in them. Skin cancer is no joke, so put your safety first.

4. Hydrate!

When you get up in the morning, make yourself a glass of lemon water. This simple drink will help you stay hydrated during the day, as well as boost your metabolism.

5. Eat your breakfast

Studies show that millions of Americans skip breakfast every day. However, if you want to lose weight skip dinner, not breakfast. This meal is extremely important since it gives your body (and your brain!) the fuel it needs to take on the day. While it might be tempting to stuff your face with an ice cream sandwich early in the morning, force yourself to make healthier choices. During the summer you need to increase the intake of fresh fruits and vegetables, so prepare yourself a tasty fruit salad, sliced zucchini or just pop some watermelon in your mouth. This way your body will get all the nutrients it needs to make up for the energy loss brought about by the heat.

6. Meditate

Admit it, what is the first thing you do in the morning? I bet checking your Instagram or email is on top of your list. However, these activities just waste your precious mental energy and put you on the path to overwhelm. Therefore, instead of grabbing your phone like your life depends on it, give meditation a chance. This activity will help you start the day much more peacefully, give you more energy and maximize your productivity. A lot of people believe that meditation takes a long time, but that is just a myth. You can meditate for as long as you want, even if it’s only for several minutes.

7. Define your goals

Maybe writing down the list of things you want to accomplish throughout the day sounds silly and unnecessary, but research from Dominican University shows that people who write down their goals are far more successful at accomplishing them than those who don’t. Therefore, use those few minutes while you are cooling down after your workout to sit down and make a list of things you want to achieve that day.

8. Enjoy the moment

Have your favorite coffee from Starbucks, drink a cup of tea or a glass of juice, whatever floats your boat. Just take those 10 minutes to fully enjoy your favorite drink without any distractions and simply relish that little moment. Our lives have become so chaotic that somewhere along the way we forgot to really enjoy those simple moments that make our day.

Staying healthy and fit during the summer is not a mission impossible. Tiny changes in your morning routine can lead to huge improvements in your everyday life, so give them a try.
