Get Your Smile Pearly White

Updated on February 13, 2019

Everyone is capable of having a white smile thus looking brighter and more presentable as they go through their day, holding discussions and making ordinary conversation. Getting your teeth whiter is a totally realistic target to aim for, and you can do this without spending a huge amount of money.

Read on for tips that will arm you with a choice of tools and measures that you can take to achieve this, whether at home or with assistance from a Medical Device Consultant.

General Dental Hygiene

Stains come about due to poor dental hygiene, colored foods and drinks, and poor dental health. The first frontline attack to whitening your teeth is to brush them frequently using kinds of toothpaste that have silica and fluoride. Silica is a mild abrasive that scrubs away new stains while fluoride reduces cavities and can repair early stages of tooth decay.

When you brush your teeth often, you will enjoy healthy gums, whiter teeth, and fresher breath because you reduce the build-up of plaque, bad breath, and bleeding or sore gums. Be sure to brush your teeth long enough to loosen and extract food particles, plaque and stimulate your gums thereby allowing better blood flow to them. Healthy pink gums make your smile pop.

So, carry a toothbrush and paste with you everywhere you go. Squirrel away spare brushes in your office, car and use them dexterously.

Consider using whitening toothpaste which will make your teeth whiter than the regular products. Their effect is not dramatically instant, but they do whiten teeth over time with consistent usage. They may, unfortunately, cause tooth sensitivity or exacerbate the problem if it already exists.

After brushing your teeth, use mouthwash and floss, to get into the spaces that you did not reach when brushing.  Use mouthwashes with fluoride to fight tooth decay and those with hydrogen peroxide can whiten teeth for their bleaching effect.

Other Whitening Solutions

  1. While the manual toothbrushes do good work, you also have the option of getting an electric toothbrush. These have timer settings to ensure you are brushing long enough and they vibrate without slacking off, during each session.
  2. Mix one part hydrogen peroxide and two parts baking soda into a paste, and brush your teeth. The hydrogen peroxide lightens stains, while the baking soda helps scrub away plaque.
  3. The method that works fastest is to get your teeth whitened by the dentist. Your dentist will use a combination of peroxide and LED light to whiten the teeth. Some teeth stains can be entrenched deep in the enamel, while others are more to the surface.
  4. Whitening strips and whitening pens that have hydrogen peroxide allow you to get at the hard to reach areas near the gums and uneven teeth.

It may cramp your style a bit, but, try to avoid foods and drinks that stain such as coffee, red wine, and dark sauces. And if you do consume any of them, follow it with a quick rinse with water.

As your teeth get whiter, maintain the brightness by consistently following good dental hygiene.
