Fun Activities to Do with Your Kids This Summer without Leaving the House

Updated on April 21, 2020

School is out for the next couple of weeks. Now that the kids are stuck at home, take it as an opportunity to bond and make lasting memories with each other. Here are some fun activities you can do with your child this summer without leaving the comforts of your own home:

Play Video Games

Many kids would rather stay inside and play a video game than go out under the sun. While you probably prefer that they are engaged in sports so that they can get ample exercise, there are certain cognitive benefits to spending time playing video games.

As a parent, you have to support their hobbies. Show that you are interested in what they enjoy by trying out one of their favorite games on the PlayStation or grab a Joycon and compete on a game of Mario Kart on the Nintendo Switch. You can even surprise them by getting your child, and yourself, a gaming PC. Ask the best custom PC builder in your area for help if technology is not something that you are well-versed with.

Backyard Camping

Going to a campsite in the middle of the woods sounds fun, but you do not have to drive far away to enjoy nature. If you are lucky enough to live in a house that has a spacious backyard, set up your tent and sleep there for the night.

You can still do the activities that you normally do at a campsite like create a bonfire (make sure that it is far from anything that may burn), tell ghost stories, roast marshmallows, and even go stargazing. Moreover, you always have access to a clean bathroom. Plus, if you forget something that you need, you just walk back inside the house to retrieve it.

Open Your Own Backyard Theater

Give movie nights with the family an upgrade! Make the most of the warm nights and set up your own outdoor theater.

This one is an easy project. All you need is a projector, speakers, and either a plain white cloth or a blank wall. Bring out a couch, a blanket, and a lot of pillows to make sure that everyone feels comfortable and cozy. Choose a family-friendly movie that everyone will like. Moreover, make some popcorn or whatever snack your children prefer to enjoy the movie.

Build a Fort

This one is a classic. Grab all the pillows and blankets available at home and turn the entire living room into a fort.

Kids love building a fort because it provides them their own personal space that is hidden from everyone. Inside your fort, you and your kids can read books or play board games. Whatever tickles your fancy.

Create Your Own Show

If you have seen all that Netflix has to offer, then why not produce your show. Team up with your kids to play that you will perform at the end of summer. Ask them to write a script and help them create costumes. If your child is more interested in fashion, let them bring out their clothes and create outfits for them to wear at their very own fashion show. This activity is not only fun, but it will encourage your kids to hone their creative side.

You do not have to go far nor spend a lot of money in order to bond with your family. Try out one or all of these activities with your kids this summer.
