Cosmetic Surgery Trends for 2020

Updated on January 26, 2021

With more than 18 million patients taking up cosmetic surgery in 2018, including both plastic surgery and minimally invasive treatments, cosmetic surgery is continuing to be popular. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the most popular treatments tend to focus on the appearance of the skin including reducing wrinkles, body contouring and generally improving the skin’s appearance.

So, what were the most popular plastic surgery procedures?

Breast Augmentation

This procedure has been popular since 2006, and according to ASPS, over 300,000 patients underwent the knife in 2018. Advancements in this field have made the surgery safer and have reduced the down time needed following the treatment.

The next up and coming trend in breast surgery will be fat transfer. This procedure is often considered safer as it harvests fat from the abdomen, thighs and other areas of the body. This is then injected into the breasts to enhance the appearance. This works well because the body accepts the fat transfer more readily than an implant as it doesn’t see the fat as a foreign object or substance.

Liposuction

With over 250,000 procedures carried out in 2018, liposuction is second in this list. This treatment is popular due to its fast effects of removing fatty tissue and creating a slimmer, smoother skin tone following the procedure. Liposuction is popular with both men and women and can be carried out o many areas of the body.

The recovery time after treatment is low depending on how the body copes with the surgery. This treatment can also be carried out as a day procedure although some patients will need an overnight stay.

Nose Reshaping

With the increased popularity of non-surgical nose shaping using dermal fillers, it is no wonder this is still third on the list. This is due to its safe profile, almost instant results, and high customer satisfaction.

In a world of selfies, having a beautiful nose is one reason why so many people choose to have a Rhinoplasty procedure.

Most Popular Minimally Invasive Procedures

Botulinum toxin type A

The Botulinum toxin type A injections include Botox, Xeomin, Jeuveau and Dysport. With millennials getting in on the treatment that was once reserved for those showing signs of ageing, this trend is set to continue well into 2020.

Add to this the fact that Restylane and Juvederm will be requested more frequently for lip enhancement, it is no wonder more than 7 million patients had these procedures carried out in 2018.

Focusing on the lip area, in 2020 there will be many more lip lift surgeries, which is a procedure that shortens the space between the bottom of the nose and the top of the lip. This is a more permanent solution than fillers or Botox.

Hair Transplants

Hair transplants are set to be a top trend for 2020. Although this type of surgery has been carried out since the 1950’s, it has seen many changes in the procedure over recent years. Using the patient’s own hair, the surgeon simply moves the hair from one area to another.

The procedure takes from 4 – 8 hours depending on the area and type of surgery conducted. There are two types of hair transplant surgery, Follicular Unit Strip Surgery (FUSS) and Follicular Unit Extraction.

The recovery time can vary but patients are usually back to work within 2-5 days. The patient may need further treatments to help maintain their hair. There are many patients who decide to carry out their hair transplant in Turkey. To find out more click here.

Body Contouring

Although liposuction and tummy tucks offer plastic surgery solutions to a slimmer more tones figure, many patients may want to achieve this look with more minimally invasive techniques.

There are many techniques available on the market these days to help patients create the body shape they desire. Some will target the muscle groups of an area that needs toning, removing the fat to produce a more toned, even skin contour.

Results from contouring treatments take several weeks to see, although the complete result could take up to 3 months. This treatment is perfect for anyone scared of going under the knife and doesn’t mind waiting to see results.

Conclusion

More and more patients are looking for non-invasive surgeries to improve their bodies, and 2020 will see the rise of lip lifts, body contouring and hair transplants, with the more invasive surgeries still being carried out for more substantial results such as breast augmentation.

Having the perfect body doesn’t have to be painful, but patience is essential if patients aren’t looking for a quick fix.
