Conemaugh Welcomes Fellowship Trained Pain Management Physician

Dr. Alcinto Steven Guirand, a Physiatrist specializing in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) and fellowship trained in Pain Medicine has joined Conemaugh Physician Group – Pain Management.

Dr. Guirand is a graduate of The Pennsylvania State University and University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He completed an Internal Medicine internship at UPMC Montefiore Hospital and a residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Harvard Medical School /Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. He then returned to the University of Pittsburgh to complete a Pain Medicine fellowship with UPMC’s Pain Medicine Program.

In his new position, Dr. Guirand will specialize in the treatment of chronic pain and musculoskeletal injuries. He is experienced image guided musculoskeletal, spine, peripheral nerve and sympathetic nerve injections. He additionally is trained in kyphoplasty and neuromodulation techniques including spinal cord stimulation.

Dr. Guirand’s interest in medicine grew in part from his mother’s career as a nurse practitioner and his father’s position in medical software engineering. He chose Physiatry and Pain Medicine because he enjoys helping people improve their function and return to their normal daily activities. He is a member of the American Academy of Pain Medicine, Spine Intervention Society, North American Neuromodulation Society and the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
