Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center welcomes Emergency Medicine physician Michael Galuska, MD to its team. A Johnstown native, Dr. Galuska is a recently separated veteran of the United States Navy Medical Corps and most recently worked at the Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton in California. He remains a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy’s Individual Ready Reserve.
Board certified in Emergency Medicine, Dr. Galuska attended medical school at Penn State University College of Medicine and completed the York Hospital Emergency Medicine Residency Program where he served as Chief Resident. Prior to medical school, he earned his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Biology from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown as a summa cum laude graduate.
Dr. Galuska will work in the Emergency Department at Conemaugh Memorial. “There’s a level of uncertainty that keeps it exciting,” says Dr. Galuska about his passion for working as an Emergency Medicine physician. “You never know what’s coming through the door next. We’re the last stop when patients can’t get help elsewhere.”
Dr. Galuska has received both the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement and Commendation Medals and was deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2009 serving at the Naval Expeditionary Medical Facility in Kuwait.
Dr. Galuska is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) and the American Academy of Emergency Medicine (AAEM). A former Resident Researcher of the Year award winner at York Hospital, his past research has been published and presented at both regional and national meetings.
