7 Easy Plants to Grow Outside

Updated on December 3, 2019

If you are new to gardening, it can be really hard to decide which plants to grow in your garden. Some plants are deceptively tricky to keep alive, and some plants are just damn right stubborn. Luckily for you, we have put together a list of seven plants that are relatively easy to grow outside.

Just remember, before you plant anything in your garden, you need to make sure it is as safe as possible for whatever you decide to plant. Most importantly, make sure your yard is as weed-free as possible. There are a number of guides on the internet for preventing weeds and for getting rid of them too. However, we advise you to stick clear of weed killers with strong chemicals as ingredients. In recent news, citizens of Illinois have filed a class-action lawsuit against the brand roundup after claims one of the ingredients in their product, may cause cancer. (If you are worried this has happened to you, make sure you speak to a good Illinois roundup lawyer as soon as possible.)

So without further ado, here are some beautiful flowers that are pretty easy to look after.

Petunias

With a vast range of vibrant blossoming colors, petunias are self-cleaning and have great resistance to hot and cold temperatures. All you need to do is water and provide good fertilizer regularly.

Hostas

Hostas are one of the easiest plants to grow in a garden. They are tough and require little care and range from a stunning blue-gray color all the way to a yellow-green. The only thing to watch out for with this plant is slugs, keep an eye out for any of these pesky critters.

Coralbells

Easy to grow as long as they are grown in the shade, this plant brings a great added benefit to any garden. Hummingbirds absolutely love them, so if you want to attract one of the prettiest birds around, get planting these beauties.

Weigela

Another plant that has a reputation for attracting hummingbirds. This shrub is loved by gardeners because of its maintenance-free nature. They require little to no effort, and many of the varieties you can buy are re-bloomers.

Verbena

Verbena is a plant that grows tall and blossoms with vibrant purple or pink colors. Clusters of them make create a bold, striking color spot in any garden. They can survive well in even extremely hot and dry conditions.

Daylilies

Daylilies may look fragile and delicate, but their beauty in no way speaks for their hardiness. This is a plant that you can often find naturally in dry ditches and on the side of roads. Once planted, these beautiful plants will re-bloom with gorgeous orange-yellow flowers for years to come.

Pentas

Pentas have a gorgeous star-shaped flower that is known for attracting butterflies. Pair this with the other plants in this article, and your garden will be teeming with hummingbirds and butterflies in no time. This plant is probably the easiest to plant on this list as well, and they don’t care when or where you plant them.

Creating a beautiful garden does not have to be a passion reserved for those with skilled green thumbs. Hopefully, we have given you some inspiration in this article to start your own gorgeous garden.
