5 Reasons for investing AED wall mounting kit

Updated on July 9, 2020

Globally, sudden cardiac arrest is one of the common causes of death, affecting 350,000-700,000 people in Europe and more than 356,000 people outside hospitals in the US every year [1]. Cardiac arrest usually occurs due to an underlying heart condition. The most prominent ones are ventricular fibrillation (VF) and ventricular tachycardia (VT). In these two conditions, the lower chambers of the heart, i.e., ventricles, beat erratically, and fail to pump the blood around the body.

A person struck with a cardiac shock collapses immediately, and his/her breathing lowers chaotically. Medical professionals, in sudden cardiac arrest, recommend the use of automated external defibrillator (AED) before cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). AED delivers shock treatment to defibrillate the heart. Noting the crucial importance of AED, public facilities must be equipped with emergency equipment and proper training.

An AED should always be found within close access to the general public. This is done by mounting AEDs onto easily accessible walls in public spaces, allowing anyone to grab the AED if required.

An AED wall mounting kit is an indispensable accessory, and here’s why:

1. To Make the AED Readily Accessible

Cardiac arrests occur suddenly in most cardiac patients, even if their underlying condition completely in control [2]. Out of the cumulative figure of out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrest cases in the US, about 90 percent of the victims die from it each year. With a vast majority of cases happening outside medical facilities, it becomes necessary for the public to have access to.

There are, in fact, several public areas where AEDs are available for public use. These AEDs are mounted to the wall using an AED wall bracket. For the AED to continue to be readily accessible to the public, a reliable wall bracket must be used to firmly fix the device on the wall. To give you an idea, AED wall bracket provided by Mindray is gaining popularity among users. This mounting bracket shows great compatibility with BeneHeart C series and BeneHeart D1. It is an ideal option for home use as well as public use.

Problems with the AED wall bracket could cost us a life. If the AED is not within close reach, the person experiencing cardiac arrest may face severe consequences, including death.

2. To Keep Equipment in Good Condition

It is important to maintain the condition of your AED wall bracket to make sure no problems arise when using it to treat cardiac arrest. Factors, like dirt, can impair the wall-mounting equipment’s function and delay emergency care.

Most companies do not offer a complimentary AED wall mounting kit with it. Instead, if you plan to purchase an AED for your facility, you are expected to pay for AED accessories and an AED wall mounting kit, too. However, it is well worth the added cost because it keeps the AED in good condition.

Instead of leaving the AED to hide within a closet, or placing it in another inconvenient place, positioning it on the wall increases its prominence and keeps it within everyone’s line of sight at all times.

3. To Keep the AED away from Children

Despite the needs of keeping an AED within an easy access, it is a medical device and cannot be left out in the open or within close proximity of children or toddlers who may misuse the equipment. Children also run the risk of hurting themselves with an AED. AEDs are electrically charged and can electrocute anyone if not careful, so they must be kept away from children.

By using a well-maintained AED wall bracket, we can easily keep an AED in public spaces within close reach of adults but high enough on the wall to keep children and toddlers at bay. For this reason, the AED wall bracket should also be well maintained to make sure that the AED doesn’t fall off and hurt any children passing by.

4. To Provide Emergency Alert

Some companies, such as Mindray, provide AED cabinets that come with an alarm. The alarm will be triggered once the AED was removed from the wall cabinet, warning the nearby staff of the facility and the passerby about the emergency.

5. To Find the AED in Time

For each minute that defibrillation is delayed, the odds of survival are reduced by approximately 10% [3]. Sudden cardiac arrests due to VF and VT can lead to heart attacks and brain damages that are irrecoverable. CPR can only mildly control the situation before emergency service arrives [3].Early defibrillation is a high-priority goal [4]

Finding the AED in time is critical to saving lives. Public AED equipment is installed in various public locations in an AED wall bracket or cabinet, where you can easily access it. These installations are easily distinguishable due to their labels and bright color. By reading this label, passersby are alerted about the presence of an AED in the area.

Conclusion

In the US, around 200,000 cardiac arrests occur each year in hospitals, and 24 percent of those patients survive [4]. Medical professionals suggest that presently, the use of AEDs is the best and most effective treatment in urgent cases. Many AEDs have saved the lives of many individuals who suffered cardiac arrests in public areas and AED wall mounting kits play an important role in making the AEDs readily available and accessible to everyone.
