Science Fair Volunteer Opportunities

Updated on January 15, 2022

The Pittsburgh Regional Science and Engineering Fair (PRSEF) will celebrate its 72nd year of open competition of research projects in the fields of science, mathematics and engineering on April 1 (competition day) and April 2 (awards ceremony) at Heinz Field. This competition is open to all students in grades 6-12 from 23 counties in Western Pennsylvania and three counties in West Virginia.

PRSEF is looking for volunteers to help on Competition Day, Friday, April 1, 2011. The competition takes place at Heinz Field, Club Levels. Refreshments and a Science Fair t-shirt will be provided free.

The following positions are available:

SET-UP ASSISTANTS 6:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. – 45 needed

During the Science Fair, you will serve as the students’ first point-of-contact on the project floor. You will help students find their project’s location and help with larger or multi-piece project displays. More than 1,000 students are expected, and that means more than 1,000 projects will need to be set up between 7:00am and 9:30am.

INSPECTORS 6:30a.m. – 9:30 a.m. – 45 needed

You are the most powerful volunteers. You will receive a list of requirements and an Inspector Checklist to assist in your review of student projects. After they’ve completed set-up, each student will raise an ORANGE inspection sheet; your cue to inspect. More than 1,000 students are expected, and that means more than 1,000 projects will need to be inspected between the hours of 7:00am and 9:30am.

STUDENT GUIDES/FLOOR MANAGERS 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. or 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

You will be strategically placed within Heinz Field and outside Carnegie Science Center to assist with student flow, ensuring movement is done in a safe and timely manner. All shifts are available. Pittsburgh Police will be available as students cross the street.
