La Roche Design to Host Positive Space Art Showcase on March 21

Updated on March 9, 2016

La Roche College’s annual juried art and design show, Positive Space, will run from Monday, March 21 to Tuesday, April 10 in the Cantellops Art Gallery at La Roche’s main campus in the North Hills.

Conceptualized, promoted and organized each year by La Roche senior design students, Positive Space displays more than 150 works of art and design submitted by students who have completed a minimum of one art or design-related course. The theme of this year’s competition is Be Unique. Be Daring. Be Bold., which encourages inner strength, confidence and greater design solutions. The exhibit will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., including weekends. Admission is free.

Opening night will be held on Monday, March 21, with a reception at 6 p.m. and an awards ceremony at 7 p.m. in the Zappala College Center. A panel of outside professionals in the fields of graphic and interior design will review each entry and award first, second and third place prizes. The top honor is the Best of Show Award.

The show will feature artwork across multiple categories: photography, foundations of design, fine art and drawing, book and publication design, poster and promotion, interactive and multimedia, environmental graphic design, packaging, branding and system design, illustration, information design, residential and commercial interior design, rendering, 3-D modeling, sustainable interior design, conceptual interior design and social design.

Positive Space also will include interactive installations on campus and an Instagram Challenge. La Roche design students encourage Instagram users to follow @PositiveSpaceLRC to participate in a daily photo challenge. All participants will have their photos displayed at opening night, and a Viewers Choice Award will be awarded for the photo voted as the crowd’s favorite.
