Advanced Heart Failure Clinic Available at UPMC Horizon

Updated on April 8, 2013

A cardiologist from the UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute has established an advanced heart failure clinic at UPMC Horizon.

Michael A. Mathier, MD, director of the UPMC Pulmonary Hypertension Program and Cardiovascular Fellowship Program, as well as medical director of the Community Outreach and Cardiovascular Health Program, operates the clinic at UPMC Horizon once a month. The clinic was designed to provide consultative services to UPMC Horizon physicians and offers an array of medical and surgical options for advanced heart failure patients ranging from medications, mechanical circulatory support devices and cardiac transplantation.

Dr. Mathier specializes in the care of patients with advanced heart failure, cardiac transplantation, and pulmonary hypertension. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine, cardiology, advanced heart failure, and transplantation.

The advanced heart failure clinic at UPMC Horizon provides a connection to the UPMC Heart Transplantation Program, one of the first three heart transplantation centers in the nation and one of the few programs nationwide with heart recipients approaching or beyond 30 years post-transplant. Since 1980, UPMC surgeons have performed more than 1,400 adult heart transplants.

Dr. Mathier sees patients at the UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute at UPMC Horizon, 2000 Memorial Drive, Farrell. For more information about the advanced heart failure clinic, call 412-647-6000 or visit UPMC.com.
